Software Development Companies in Ireland for SMEs (2026)

By Jack Doherty, updated 6 November 2026

Looking for a software development company in Ireland that will build for a business your size, not a bank or a multinational? Below are six Irish firms that build custom software, web apps and mobile apps for small and mid-sized businesses, what each one says it does, and how to pick between them.

How this list was made: WDI wrote it and WDI is on it, listed first. The other five are in alphabetical order. Every fact about each firm comes from that firm's own website, read on 6 November 2026. Nobody paid to be included. Firms that focus on large enterprise clients, and firms we could not confirm have an Irish office, were left out.

    1. WDI (Web Digital Innovations)

WDI builds software for Irish SMEs, mostly in construction, trades and supply. The work is practical systems that replace spreadsheets, paper and phone tag: custom CRMs, trade account portals where trade customers order at their own prices, digital dockets for site teams, and automation and AI tools that link up the systems a firm already uses.

One example is a trade shop we built for an Irish supplier: about 170 products, no public prices, enquiry buttons, an account area for trade customers and courier tracking. WDI also runs outbound sales for clients, so the software is often built around winning and handling more work.

Good fit if: you run a construction, trades or supply business and want a system built around how your team already works.

    2. Cozmotec

Cozmotec is a Dublin software company that builds custom software, AI applications and custom AI agents, workflow automation and system integration, along with business intelligence, websites and mobile apps. Its site says it works with established businesses in Ireland and the UK, typically with 10 to 200 employees, and names clients in travel, accounting, aviation and manufacturing. Its about page lists it as overall winner of the 2025 Fingal Enterprise Awards.

Good fit if: you are an established firm with a clear process to automate or several systems to join up.

    3. ERS IT Solutions

ERS IT Solutions has its office in Blanchardstown Corporate Park, Dublin 15, and says it has been trading since 1983. It builds custom applications, iOS and Android apps, portals, middleware and system integrations, workflow automation and PowerApps, alongside managed IT and cyber security. Its site says it has more than 25 in-house developers, that clients own their source code and IP, and that it will take over software built by another vendor.

Good fit if: you want one supplier for software and IT support, or you need someone to take over an existing system.

    4. Loco Digital

Loco Digital is based in The Digital Hub in Dublin 8 and was founded in 2021, formerly LOCO Group. It builds websites and e-commerce, web and mobile apps, custom software and internal tools, and AI and automation. Its site says clients own their code and data, with no lock-in.

Good fit if: you want your website and your software built and run by the same team.

    5. Square Root Solutions

Square Root Solutions has its office on Taylor's Lane in Dublin 8 and says it started in Kilkenny. It builds mobile apps for iOS and Android, web apps, custom software, AI products, MVPs, SaaS and IoT. Its site says it works with Irish startups, SMEs and enterprise teams, has more than 150 engineers, and holds ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certification. It is the technology partner to Leinster GAA.

Good fit if: you are building an app or a software product and want a large team behind it.

    6. The Coder Spot

The Coder Spot is on Adelaide Road in Dublin 2. It builds custom software, web apps, Android and iOS apps (cross-platform and native, in Flutter, React Native, Swift and Kotlin among others), and AI and machine learning work. Its homepage says it helps SMEs and startups, and its about page says it has delivered more than 30 projects.

Good fit if: your main need is a mobile app, built cross-platform to keep one codebase.

How to choose a software development company in Ireland

    • Ownership. Ask in writing who owns the code, the data and the hosting accounts. You should be able to move to another developer without starting again.
    • Who looks after it. Most of the cost of software comes after launch. Ask who fixes things, how fast, and what happens when your accounts package or email provider changes.
    • Where the team is. Some Irish firms deliver part of the work from teams abroad. That can work well, but ask who you will deal with day to day and in what hours.
    • Start small. A good developer will suggest a first phase you can use within weeks, not a year-long build. Ask what the first useful version looks like.
    • Your other systems. Ask how the new system will connect with the tools you already use, such as your accounts package, your CRM or your website.
    • A live example. Ask to see something they built that is in daily use, and if you can, talk to the business that uses it.

    Custom software or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf software is the right answer when your process is standard: accounts, payroll, email, a basic CRM. Custom software pays off when your process is what sets you apart, when you are paying for several tools that don't talk to each other, or when your team keeps re-typing the same information. Many firms end up with a mix: off-the-shelf tools for the basics, and a small custom system that joins them up. Our CRM buyer's guide covers the off-the-shelf side, and our list of Irish AI consultancies covers AI work.

    FAQs

It designs, builds and looks after software for other businesses: web apps, mobile apps, internal systems and the links between them. Most Irish firms also offer hosting and ongoing support once the system is live.

A smaller firm usually gives you direct contact with the people building your system. A larger firm gives you more people and more specialist skills. Pick by the size and risk of the project, and by who you will actually deal with.

It depends on scope. A focused first version, such as a portal or an internal tool, is often weeks rather than months. Larger systems are best built in phases so you are using part of it early.

Only if the contract says so. Ask for code ownership, access to the code repository and your own hosting accounts to be written into the agreement.

Usually, yes, if your accounts package allows it. Cloud packages tend to be easier to connect than desktop ones. Ask the developer to confirm how it will connect before the build starts.
